President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack on polio field workers in Karachi and Peshawar in which women workers involved in polio eradication campaign lost their lives. While condemning the attack on volunteers, the President directed the Chief Secretaries of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces to conduct an enquiry into the barbaric incidents and submit the reports within 48 hours.

The President while expressing his profound grief and sorrow over the incident expressed sympathies with the bereaved families of the workers and prayed to Allah Almighty for eternal peace of the departed souls. Paying tribute to the services rendered by the polio field teams, the President said that they have been instrumental in eradication of the disease from the country.

The President directed all concerned to co-ordinate with the national polio eradication teams and provide them foolproof security so that they could continue the campaign without any hindrance. The President reiterated unflinching resolve and commitment of the government for complete eradication of the polio from the country and urged the provincial governments for ensuring safety and security of the workers involved in this noble cause.
